We hold meetings the 3rd Thursday of each month with a break in the Summer. Bookmark our Events page for future meetings (first one free for guests) and field trips (for members only). Join PICC today (details).
Our Speaker Chair is Tessa and she found a gem of a speaker today; actually 2 speakers (one speaker was silent…and had scales).
Today’s speaker was Brittany from C.R.O.W. (website) and the topic today was “Rescue Rehabilitate Release”. She taught us what to do when we find “abandoned”or insured wildlife.

Abandoned is in quotes because we learned that mother deer will leave their fawn for a long time to keep it safe from predators who may follow momma to her baby. Racoons do the same. All that and more can be found on the C.R.O.W. website.
Don’t call to “donate” dead animals around your home/land. No. Just. No. They feed their rescues only germ free, clean, frozen/thawed food.
Do NOT bring in an “abandoned” animal. That’s kidnapping. Call and ask!! Especially a rabbit. Momma rabbit will only visit baby 2x day for 5-10 mins each time.

They partner with multiple agencies nearer to us that may be able to help or house an injured animal. It’s all about cooperation and love for our wildlife.

Horticulture
Today’s horticulture topic was presented by Bonnie Kellen on the Marlberry bush which can grow to approx 10’ max. It is a moderate growth bush (not too fast, not to slow) and birds love them. They have tiny white clusters of flowers when in bloom.
